The foundation. The bedrock. The bass section in disguise. When the choir needs a long drone, a repeated ostinato, or three notes sung for six straight pages, we're there. Our part gets rehearsed for approximately five minutes of a two-hour rehearsal and then continues for the entire piece. Do we get the melody? Rarely. Do we hold everything together while everyone else has their artistic moment? Absolutely. If the choir is a house, we're the concrete.
